Welcome
Beginning counselling can feel like a significant step. You may be facing anxiety, loss, relationship difficulties, stress, or simply a sense that something in your life needs changing. Whatever brings you here, you don't have to have everything worked out before we meet.
I offer a warm, thoughtful and confidential space where we can explore your experience together, at a pace that feels right for you. Rather than offering quick answers or advice, I believe that lasting change often begins with being listened to carefully.
My approach is rooted in person-centred counselling and informed by Gestalt therapy. This means I pay attention not only to the stories we tell about ourselves, but also to what is happening in the present moment—our thoughts, feelings, relationships and the ways we make contact with the world around us. Together, we can develop greater awareness, discover new possibilities, and find ways of living that feel more authentic and fulfilling.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in education. Alongside my counselling practice, I am also a poet and letterpress printer. These experiences have taught me to value the importance of language, silence, creativity and careful attention—qualities that also shape the way I work with clients.
Whether you are seeking support through a particular difficulty or simply looking for a place to pause and reflect, I would be pleased to hear from you.
What To Expect
Taking the first step can feel daunting, particularly if you have never had counselling before. My aim is to provide a calm, welcoming and confidential space where you can speak freely, without fear of judgement or pressure.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you hope for, and whether working together feels like the right fit. You are under no obligation to continue after this meeting if it doesn't feel right for you.
Counselling is not about giving advice or telling you what to do. Instead, it offers the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with someone who will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and support you in developing greater awareness of yourself and your relationships.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place once a week. Everything we discuss is confidential, with a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, which I will explain before we begin working together.
There is no fixed timetable for counselling. Some people find that a small number of sessions is enough to work through a particular issue, while others value longer-term therapy as a space for deeper exploration and lasting change. Together, we will review the work regularly to ensure it continues to meet your needs.
Whether you are seeking support during a difficult time or simply want a space to reflect and grow, counselling offers the opportunity to pause, be heard and discover new possibilities for moving forward.
Experience
I hold a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am an Individual Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work within the BACP Ethical Framework and receive regular clinical supervision as part of my commitment to safe, ethical and reflective practice.
My training is rooted in the person-centred approach and informed by Gestalt therapy and Transactional Analysis. These approaches recognise the importance of a genuine therapeutic relationship and the role that awareness plays in personal growth and change. My aim is to offer a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences openly, without judgement or pressure.
Alongside my training, I have worked with adults experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, stress, anger, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and life transitions. While people may arrive with similar difficulties, every person's experience is unique, and I believe counselling should reflect that individuality.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over twenty-five years working in education, supporting people through periods of challenge, transition and personal development. That experience continues to shape my counselling practice, reinforcing the importance of empathy, patience and respectful listening.
Alongside counselling, I am also a poet and letterpress printer. My creative work has deepened my appreciation of language, silence and the ways we make meaning from our experience. While counselling and creativity are distinct, both have taught me the value of paying careful attention to what is present.
I see counselling as a collaborative process. Rather than offering advice or ready-made solutions, I work alongside clients as they develop greater awareness, discover their own strengths and explore new possibilities for change.
Fees
Free Initial Consultation
Finding the right counsellor is an important part of the therapeutic process. I therefore offer a free 30-minute introductory session, either online or by telephone, with no obligation to continue.
This gives us an opportunity to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling, and consider whether working together feels right for both of us. It is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about counselling or the way I work.
Counselling Sessions
If you decide to continue, ongoing counselling sessions last 50 minutes and are charged at £45 per session.
Sessions are usually held weekly at the same time each week, although we can discuss arrangements that best meet your needs.
Online sessions are possible if requested.
Payment is requested in advance of each session by bank transfer.
Cancellations
If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I ask for at least 48 hours' notice where possible. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full, except in exceptional circumstances.
